Hi,
Does anyone out there have a parts number for a thermostat gasket for a 1950 288 CID engine. I would think I could get one locally, like from NAPA, but these days the countermen don't know what a Packard is. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike Burkhart

Had a little luck. I crossed over the CARQUEST # C24125 listed in the Packard Parts Cross reference to O'Reilly #2140 and it is a perfect fit. The price was right at $1.29 ea., too!
Thanks,
Mike

Easy enough to make one out of gasket paper should one not be available. I have done this for the thermostat housing and other parts. Satisfying to make something that goes on the car.

Fully agree with JW, if you're going to be into old cars on more than just a one-time basis, it will pay to buy as assortment of gasket papers and develop the knack of making the simple ones yourself. Gasket paper assortments are widely available, I got my last package from NAPA.

Yes, I agree. I have been making gaskets for 50+ years. I wanted a pre-made one this time, as I have not taken the housing off yet. I can re-assemble it quicker, and as you know, these can be a chronic problem, so a factory stamped one for $1.29 fit the bill this time.
Thanks guys!!
Mike
