Connecting cables to 6 volt battery

I was asked when putting a new 6 volt battery in--which cable do you hook to the battery first? I think I always hook the negative first then the positive ground but now I can't really remember.

I was always told to connect everything and then do the connection for the ground cable at the battery last. Doing it in that order if you accidentally touch the wrench to any metal while tightening anything else then no damage or excitement results.
