Oil pump tidbit

I picked up a little tid bit of oil pump info today.
The oil pump on my 38 died and I didn't notice the 0 on my oil pressure gauge until it was too late. Yep scored the crank(drat) Anyway it seemed that the pin on the pump shaft sheared. Now for the tid bit- Some of the pumps are coming through with a roll pin instead of a solid pin and there have been failures(mine was a roll pin lucky me). Sometimes new isn't better than old

Over the years I've had both types fail but the solid pins are better. G

I had the engine rebuilt last winter so I have about 3000 miles on it.

Did the roll pin simply come out or broke in half or what???

Just to say it "failed" doesn't allow for much analysis.

Sheared off- I think I'm going to rig up an idiot light by duct taping a sealed beam headlight to my steering wheel

If it sheared off then u wouldn't have had much time to get the engine shut down anyway. So the idiot lite wouldn't have done much good. Especialy if u were traveling much over 30 mph at all.

IT must have been cheap low quality roll pin. My first thot was that the roll pin simply came out.

Phil, do you really think that'll get your attention?
