Was 1947 the last year for the Packard Six?

Is it also true that the Six was only offered in Packards that were designated for use as taxis?

Or is that just one of those Packard myths?......

Was the Six dropped because of low sales after WW2?

There was a recent, long, long thread on the topic of the Packard sixes which has all the information (and perhaps more than you want) on this, including the 6 cylinder export cars, taxis, use of the 245 six in Packard marine engines, the White COE truck, etc. Suggest you browse around to find it or perhaps someone will post a link to it, it's titled "last 6 cylinder".

Thanks, how do you do that? (that is, add the link to a thread into your response).

Dave,

- Open the thread you want to copy the link of
- Left lick your cursor in the web address, eg: http.//packardino.....etc
- That will highlight the Web address
- Right click your cursor while holding it over the highlighted address and select "Copy" and Right click to copy it
- In the thread you wish to include the web adddress in then left click where you wish to insert it and right click on "Paste"
- VOILA! Link inserted.

Probably somewhat long-winded and maybe terminology is not 100% correct but I hope you can follow it.

The short answer to the question is "no". There were some sixes made after 1947, but mainly for the export and taxi cab trade.

And they were used for a few years after that in White trucks, IIRC.

Well, I thought this topic was over and done with...lol...but on Ebay right now, there's a '48 Packard sedan with a 6-cylinder engine!

I counted the spark plugs to make sure before I added this response...

If you are referring to the 22nd series Packard listed in Amarillo, TX... The listing says 6 cylinders but I count 8. The last picture of the engine shows this best.
