Another question.
What would be the most suitable oil for the gearbox and the overdrive of a 2150?
The old gearbox oils with viskosty about SAE80 seems unobtainable today.
There is also a question of additives, I know that some phosphor-bronze bearings are sensitive to certain additives f.ex sulfur.

SAE 85W-140 gear oil will be just fine for the transmission; no need to be concerned about the EP additives, the days of incompatibility with yellow metals is long behind us. It's also appropriate for your steering gear box. I'll let others address the OD gear oil.

Dave over at The Packard Club forum said that 85-140 gear oil is good for the transmission, overdrive and differential. Another poster that had a '34 said he used it in substitution of the 600-weight that he cannot find any longer, with excellent results.

600 gear oil (about SAE 250) is readily available but is not called for on a 1934 Packard.

Thanks for information.

I have filled both gearbox and overdrive with 85W-140 oil and am confident it will work.

2150, make sure the gear oil you put in the differential is rated GL-5 and/or HP. GL-1 is fine for the trans, OD, and steering box, but not for the diff. The diff requires a high pressure rated oil or else the ring and pinion gears will be damaged. The 85W-140 viscosity is a good all season type.

The oil I found is LIQUI MOLY LS75W-140 GL5.
It is made in Germany.
