Looks a lot worse than my first Caribbean convertible did when I bought it in the early 1970s and TOW-BARRED it from Florida to California. After all that and years of working on it and only a paint job and reassembly needed...my beautiful Caribbean was stolen. It had factory air and wire wheels (not shown here). Here is how it looked being towed across the USA around 1973... By the way... the hood is up on the Impala wagon just to give it some extra cooling at this desert rest stop. But the Impala (original owner) with little 283 V8 2-barrel and Powerglide functioned perfectly towing the Caribbean from coast to coast with not one single problem. And outrageously good gas mileage! I was in college at the time and every little bit helped. I really loved the Chevy and my beautiful Caribbean and I continue to wonder where the rats who stole it sent it. To show that NOTHING is sacred... years later I understand the wording from my own court deposition in the theft was used ostensibly to describe my car to potential buyers. You don't have to be a Caribbean expert... just steal one and then use the description the poor devil you stole it from provided to the court and police and use THAT as your sales spiel! This Caribbean is out there... somewhere today. And whoever has it...wow. I've got papers... and I'm still looking.

Hi
Yes, this historic, poor '56 Caribbean did appear at the Centennial. I have two photos of it, looked a little bit better then, but not much more so than now. Seem to recall it was rather outrageously price for its condition, though it generated considerable interest. Sorry to see it hasn't been restored. Also at the Centennial: The shocker was the '34 Twelve 1108 V-windshield Dietrich convertible sedan in ratty, preserved condition owned by a bearded fellow in the white hard hat. He seemed to be engaged in serious conversations with various obviously well-healed fellows in hot pursuit of that ultimate prize. I wouldn't have missed the Centennial for the world! Steve

Well,
How interesting! We both have stolen Caribbean convertibles in the same paint scheme. Mine did not have factory air, however. This car is still out there too...and I am looking at the title as I write this! My serial number: 5699-1179.

Esquireman, when was your stolen? 5699-1179 has an owner listed as of 2000 in Mike Grimes' database of 56 Caribbean convertibles. If this is new information to you, perhaps you should chat with Mike about it.
Leeedy, what was the VN of yours? Or better yet the theft-proof number?
