Looking for recommendations, based on personal experience, for Closed Auto Transporters.

Going from Riverside, CA to Wheaton, Il (or thereabouts).

Trying to get all the ducks in a row.

72 days until we hit the road. WAGONS EAST!

Kev- I will get you some names. I have had several bring my toys in from California. Top notch clean trailers. It is entertaining to see my packards packed in the trailer with Ferrari's and the like.

The Avanti was transported from LA to Austin by Passport Transport in an enclosed trailer at a cost of $1,300 (basically a buck-a-mile). Vault Classic Cars, where I bought the car, only uses Passport. It was picked up and delivered on schedule. Highly recommend them.

Shiny chrome, shiny paint and good looking equipment is not necessarily a recipe for success. I have personal disappointment with Passport, as does a friend of mine, then it becomes deny deny deny and the battle over the claim. Best to discuss your insurance coverage with your insurer before releasing to a shipper - more than likely you will be making a claim on YOUR insurance and letting the insurer's battle it out.

Hell hath no fury like a woman whose new BMW is delivered with a smashed nose.

My advice applies regardless of carrier/ownership. Everyone I know has, or has heard, stories of transport damage. Add some passion to the circumstance of transporting our beloved cars and it becomes a volatile mix best handled by lawyers and/or assassins.

I have never had a bad experience with a car transporter (CA to NM, NM to TX, TX to NM, MD to TX, TX to MD). Transporters were a mix of private and large carriers. All the cars were in covered trailers. I understand accidents happen and like DF, said check the condition of your insurance before shipping.
