I've sung this gentleman's praises here a few years ago, but they bear repeating. If your car is in the greater Bay Area/central/northern California, contact Dick Falk, Valley Restoration, 280 Buchanan Field Road, Concord, CA 94520-5577,
(925) 689-1934. Dick's at an age most folks are long retired, but still performing a labor of love, his efforts gracing both Oakland Roadster Show and vintage/Classic concours winners. Dick's a legend in hot rod/kustom circles, a contemporary of, and knows, Gene Winfield, George Barris, Tommy Ivo, that entire crowd.
A soft-spoken, droll gentleman, modest to a fault as so many pros are. Some of us may not have much interest in rods/kustoms, but as a late friend who took best of show at Bauble Beach in 2000 told me, the craftsmanship of many rods/Kustoms eclipses that at Pebble.
Dick's done stock Packards, Cords, a friend's gleaming '35 DeSoto Airflow, Jags, bathtub Porsches; you name it, including my black '47 Super Clipper.
A fellow just posted on this General Forum looking for a Packard mechanic in Palos Verdes (LA), so it occurs to me that others might be in need of a stellar, can do body/metal/paint man, and many of the best are too busy to advertise, or have websites, so word of mouth.
The Bay Area is hellishly overpopulated, but Dick's shop is way behind an airport, quiet, so his overhead's relatively low.
Some of us believe in spreading the word of any worthwhile service, product. That, and sharing vetted tech advice and history. Doing so with a sense of humor, empathy, and overview always helps.
