Am getting everything together to replace front springs on the 47 and parts shows there is something called an insulator used at the top of the springs. Same part # from prewar thru 54. Anyone know if the insulator is made of rubber or fiber or something that deteriorates and needs to be changed with the springs.

I looked back in my pictures and blog to see what I'd found on my springs. I remember a gasket ring on the top of the springs, but I don't remember the material. I didn't have to replace them though, so something fairly sturdy.

It's a rubber ring so may have hardened and become brittle with age.

Thanks everyone. Most of the other rubber on the car was bad so will plan on replacing them.
