appears to be cable for added overdrive. Not original to the car, for certain, but a common, and welcome upgrade. Praise to the Church of the Holy Overdrive.

LOL thanks once I go thru it and get it out on the road I will try it. We got the car from Frances Ford Coppola. He got it from Jay Leno.

Not sure if your FFS applies to this post as well, but if '39 then indeed likely original to the car, '39 was the first year of overdrive. And PLEASE read and understand the operation of this overdrive before operating....this is a one year only overdrive, and has one achilles heel, do not leave overdrive engaged and engage reverse. Also do not engage when in motion, etc. This is a very simple overdrive, no govenor per se in the normal sense, and simple relay wiring to the solenoid.
