Been so long since I have done anything on my 1952 Mayfair. Replacing the fuel pump and have a couple questions. The number on the side of the block is K402479, is that the correct year for this car. Also see picture, this was done quite sometime ago and now want to see the best way to fix. All of the interior is original and would like to fix or replace as close as possible.
Thanks
Todd

SMS in Oregon is your source for duplicate materials, they're the best and in many cases the only ones. We're lucky to have someone dedicated to originality.

This site has a place to look up engine serial numbers

K4xxxxx would be appropriate. It is for a 52 250/300 5 main 327 engine.

I don't think you are going to be able to repair that tear -- at least not so the repair would not be noticeable. If the material was so rotten to split in one place it could well do it in another spot. To lessen that possibility it would almost take a complete reupholstery of the seat because new and old fabric would also most likely be obvious.

You MIGHT be able to remove the fabric from the cushion and line up the tear very carefully. Use one of the heat activated or iron on fabric patch or reinforcing materials. With that approach you would almost need to do the entire flat and visible part of seat bottom so the area of the patch would not be quite as obvious. Still, the repair would be visible but with the stripes, maybe not terrible if the patch comes near a stripe edge. There are several iron on type materials available and some would be more appropriate than others. Here is an idea of what to look into.

Good afternoon Tolandis...Another possibility would be to take the seat bottom to a local upholstery shop. I have seen repairs made by removing the material and laying it on a piece of back up material and then running stitches the same way as the stripes. This approach will not be overly expensive, but will give the fabric strength. When this is done with care, it looks like it was deliberate and some folks might think it way factory! Good Luck! Again so long since I have paid any attention to this car, and I think I am getting senile. Looked at the data plate and see 2577-2882. So 2577 is body style, the Mayfair. The 2882 is for ? Fred mentioned where there is engine numbers here, I cannot find it.
Thanks again.

2882 is the production sequence number. I never remember if 52 numbers started at 1001 or 2001 but if 2001 it is the 882nd Mayfair produced in 52. When someone confirms the correct start number you may need to add 1000 cars to that 882 number.
