Dash laminate removal for woodgraining on a 1939 Super

I have a question that has stumped me. I am attempting to remove the plastic woodgrain from the metal backing to put on new plastic skins I received from Grain-It-Technologies. The middle section (which was all cracked up) came apart after 4 hours, hot water and a sharp screwdriver. The stuff that came off the metal backing was more like bondo than plastic! As you can see in the pictures it's pretty clean now. The real problem is the other 2 pieces (glovebox door and speedo holding panel). No cracks and they seem to be on the metal backing pretty tight. Is there a way to easily pop or split and separate the plastic shell from the metal backing? Some trick like dipping it in kerosene or plastic explosives? (Well, I wouldn't go quite that far!)

Thanks.

Steve
