Went and looked at a 49 today, rusty floors, body is decent all of the trim is intact motor supposedly had a bad head gasket at 60k miles motor needs to be put back together head has been installed. guy wants 350 bucks. was wondering if I should pull the trigger on it. Any input from the experts would be helpful hate to see it go to the crusher. Mike

If the car has overdrive, the transmission and controls are worth far more than the asking price.

John,
C2C has floor and trunk pans that are pretty close to fit.
$350 and a roller sounds like a bargain. What about the engine and trans?

What else on the engine needs put together? Sounds like with the head back on the main block is back together?
Standard transmissions usually aren't trouble prone. Might need a new clutch by now.

Sounds not much more than a parts car to me. If you need the parts or want to sell to get your money back. Resto is not cost effective in these models.

It has the auto trans in it motor is about halfway put back together, bringing it home tomorrow. I'll have a better idea what kind of shape it is in. And yes OZ I'll put it in the registry! I'll also try to post some pics if the weather cooperates.

"And yes OZ I'll put it in the registry!"

Great to hear Mike. Does this mean my diligent, relentless, unwavering and hopeful pursuit of PackardInfo members entering their Packards into the Registry is paying off?

The "_5_" identifies the vehicle as a 1950.

What is the number on the Briggs tag (small metal tag near the heater box)? First 4 digits of that will be the same as the first 4 of the vehicle number.
