On your photo of the broken switch, I don't see the short rod that is supposed to keep the idler from moving at the top. I believe it would go in the hole that has the cotter key in it. Here is what it looks like on my 47 which is all but identical to yours.

HH56, you don't know how much that picture helps me thank you so much.
Mine is definitely all screwed up!! Where does that other rod connect to on the other end? And do you happen to know hat that other little arm is for right where you put the arrow?

Thank you so much

Not sure I am following your question on the other rod. The arrow is pointing to the stabilizer rod for the idler and its other end goes to a bracket that attaches to the frame on the 47. I think it is the same on 48 but won't swear to it.

If you mean the kind of shiny rod almost directly under the arrow that is the rod coming out of the power cylinder the wire rope attaches to. The rod like thing on engine side of arrow is the mount for the Electromatic direct switch. Here is the more completely labeled photo . If I missed the rod you asked about maybe you can narrow it down.

HH56 thank you so much that answered my question sorry for being a pain in the butt. When ever you have some free time would you be able to get me some more pictures of that area of any other components of the elecromatic setup and under side of the linkage are. Thank you so much for all the help so far I think I might be able to fix all the stuff I was going to pull off

I'll be glad to get some photos but did you download that training manual I linked in the second post. It has numerous photos and descriptions on how things hook together which are probably better than what I can take. The manual is of a 48. Note that there are two manuals -- pre and postwar units are quite different. The one I linked to is the postwar version.

Here are some so-so shots from above and below showing various components on a 47. Most if not all will be identical on the 48. The firewall will be slightly different because the 48 coil is not on the firewall. Components are the same in looks unless it has the R11 OD but may be in slightly different locations. Photos in the manual are better because they do not have the obstructions preventing a clear view.

HH56, thank you so much. This helps so much, I'm going to post some picture of my engine compartment so you can see what I'm working with.

Dell, thank you for the offer but I found a whole linkage setup on ebay last night already.
you wouldn't happen to have an extra working one of those OD override switches would you?
