My golden anniversary

Hello Packard friends!

may I introduce myself, I?m Michael from southern Germany,
today it is my 50ies birthday and as an ultimate birthday present I gave me a 1949 golden anniversary Packard to ad my collection of about 25 younger classic cars!

It is a Deluxe eight sedan that was adverted for a very long period on severall platforms with several prices, and I?m very shure, that it is an original golden one. When the first important maintainance is done, I will carefully remove the glovebox to see the built-sheet. It has had one midleclass respray, but the firewall shows the original golden paint and there was no welding or restoring in the cars life, the 53690 miles seem to be genuine.

With reading the last four years of this very helpfull forum, I think I can manage most of the neccesary work (some wiring problems, rusty gas tank as usual...) and if not I can trust on your advice for shure!

First litle question, wich issue of Life-Magazine do I have to order to find the article of Packards Golden anniversary?

Best Regards
Michael

Hi Joe!

thank you for the links! I?m especcially looking for the magazine with that picture:

https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/uploads/photos/11552.jpg

and thank you for turning the pic (the "50" is from the flower shop just to cover the missing grill emblem) sadly on the registry the pic of my car ends sunny side down... can you turn that too?

I love old cars more than new computers!
Michael

Am I right in saying that you asked for the LIFE magazine with reference to photos like the one, shown below?

G'day Michael(Elefant),
to PackardInfo, and for including your R code '49 Deluxe Eight Touring Sedan in the Packard Owner's Registry. Although your photo looked good from my perspective "downunder" I've turned it around so the whole world can enjoy it without standing on their heads!

Hello Michael:

Welcome to the PackardInfo site and Happy Birthday.

If ever you get a chance to come to the Detroit area, then I want to extend an invitation to tour the Packard Proving Grounds about 25 miles north of downtown Detroit.

In 1949 the golden anniversary cars were lined up in the infield of the high speed track ready for their new owners to drive them away. Attached are two aerial photos from that day. Maybe you can spot your car in one of the photos - it should be easy - it will be the golden colored one.

Best, --Roger--

Google Books has complete scans of most of the issues of LIFE.

The Packard announcement was made April 29, 1949, but the introductory ad in LIFE, the one for sale on eBay, doesn't look like it appeared until May 30, 1949.

Perhaps that photo appeared in a 1949 year-end round-up of photos, perhaps in December 1949.
