I'm guessing the conversion for a '51 is different and these parts would not be applicable - would you know if this is accurate?

Yes and No. Depends on the models in question because Packard generally used a different spindle size on junior models vs the senior models so you need a rotor that would fit your spindle. Some of the spindle sizes carried thru model to corresponding model from 51-6 and others did not. 54 was a transition year so the statement of small junior vs large senior may not hold. In any case, you would need to find the part number for the steering knuckle on the 51 model you are working on and correlate it to the numbers for the models kits are available for or the model that was converted in which the other mfgs rotors were found to work. The steering knuckle is Group 15.400 and here are the part numbers.

In addition to Kanter and Wilwood, ABS Power Brakes also offers kits.

Hi Howard - newbie question.

I am assuming I use my vehicle number (2462 8372) and cross reference it under the "application column" of the parts list to find my PN?

In the parts manuals body, trim and cosmetic parts are generally listed under the body number which for yours would be 2462. For mechanical parts generally those are listed under the chassis number and a 2462 body is on the 2401 chassis. I use the word generally because there are a few exceptions.

There is a chart on the second and third pages of the INTRO section in the 51-4 parts manual that has the correlation of body vs chassis for the 51-4 cars. The 55-6 chart is at the same place in the TOC section of the 55-6 manual.

In some years they also listed the body vs chassis info in the special issue of the Service Counselor which gives all the mechanical specs for the various models of a particular year. Those special issues were generally published late in the preceding year prior to new model introduction. For the 51 models, specs are in the August 1950, Vol 24 #8 issue which can be downloaded from the site but there is no chart in that one.

Keep in mind that different spindle numbers refer to the entire forging but it's quite possible (although unlikely) that the actual spindle lengths and diameters are the same even with different part numbers.
