Voltage Regulators

I've been discussing voltage regulators with a company that makes a one-size-fits-all type and I pointed out that some had two mounting holes on one end and one on the other as theirs are while others had two on the connector edge and a single one at the top. Also some had all three electrical connectors on one side while others had one of them on the top and two at the bottom. Does anyone have photos or other details to help determine which is which and what had what?

From the 1948 to 1954 parts book these are the various regulator model numbers with what they fit but nothing shows the appearance. It's a tall order but I would like to know up to 1956 and possibly back to 1940 or so if anyone has the information.

You seem to have two unrelated questions here. The first is about voltage regulators.

There are many different configurations of regulators, Some have 3 connections, some 4 and some 5. There are numerous mounting configurations and dimensions. 6, 12 and 24 volt regulators all look identical. Are you trying to identify a particular regulator you have??

Second is about distributors:
Specific distributors cannot be identified by appearance, there are many differences that cannot be seen. Again, are you trying to ID a particular one you have that is missing the ID tag??

My mistake as I was just quite literally rushing out the door. I meant to post the data about regulators and have corrected my original post thanks to Fred's pointing out the error.

Delco in these years have 2 mounting holes on one short side and one on the other

A/L has 2 mounting holes on a long side and one on the other

Thank you, Fred! That's exactly what I wanted to know! Which ones had a single terminal at the top (Field, I think) with the other two at the bottom? I seem to recall that my 1953 Patrician was that way and the wiring harness was such that the wires wouldn't have reached had they all been on the same side.

The parts book does not specify the amperage for a few of them. Is that information available too?

If not given in parts books, you might be able to find it in the specs pages. Some but not all years have some max rating info. Here is the 54 and 56 as listed in the service counselors as an example.
