I have the base ring for the Packard trunk (6478527) but it is chrome plated? As far as I know that part should always be gold-plated. This part appears to be original. Has anyone ever seen a chrome version?

I've never seen a chrome one either and parts sure doesn't mention anything other than the standard gold item. Is it real shiny chrome like the "V" or could it be the crappy light yellow which passed for gold and might have been a bit skimpy on the plating or maybe even faded?

The Executive used chrome lettering instead of gold but don't think they went that far on the circle and it was still gold -- at least the parts book says it was the same as the rest.

It is bright shiny chrome just like the V.
The part number is plainly visible - I thought rechroming would obliterate that, but it is there. It's a puzzlement.

I suggest that at some point in its life after it left Packard's custody it was chromium plated.

I like DrMorbius' idea, but reality says Mr. Czirr is correct. It just appears to be original.
