Hello Charlieshot,

Thanks for the reference about clear plastic AC ducts, according to The Robert H. Aller collection of Packard Bulletins, through Mid-America Packards.

I have ordered Volumes 2 and 3 today.

Here is a bit on the Arctic Kar put together by one of the magazines of the day. I haven't seen one before either. The circle or outlet part of those plastic ducts look like they may be adjustable. Wonder if they are. If not, a real neck freeze machine.

So was the last Packard built in 1954 a factory A/C car?

Hi LTRD,

Yes. The trunk-mounted evaporator cabinet is located in the front of the trunk, with the Frigidaire emblem attached.

Not a Packard, but they installed a factory A/C in a 1953 Cadillac.

Interesting A/C instillation on this straight eight.

I wonder what kind of A/C it was?
Something Henney did?

The compressor appears to be the 1955-56 type made after Henney had discontinued building commercial chassis coaches so likely was cobbled into the car by an outside shop. Perhaps the coach had A/C already with a bad compressor and this was the only replacement they could find!

I finally got time to look through some of my papers during my post surgery period. I have some limited papers on factory air conditioning since most of my A/C stuff is for 1955-56.

I am attaching some images I made of an original folder from 1954 saved all these years. You will note that the folder shows the entire layout of the system including the rear package tray vents. The folder specifically refers to the system as "Frigidaire" and states it is specifically for 1954 Packard.

Hope this helps in your info search.
