Thief-Proof number 456445 but couldn't find the VIN-tag. Now he found it but it isn't readable.

Gusha, thanks for the #, 1938 #s have been among the hardest to come by. As to the VN, 1938 was the one and only year that Packard used a decal rather than a metal plate; frankly I'm a bit amazed that there is that much of it remaining (it is a decal, isn't it?). But if you can't get the original VN from prior documentation or owners, there really isn't any significant chance that the # can be recovered. Somewhere along the line of ownership and titles it was recorded, if you can trace it back far enough, that's about the only chance.

PS - I believe that perhaps only the Detroit-built Packards in 1938 used the decal, the few Canadian-built ones that I've taken note of have a brass plate.

red numbered license plate???. THe green car has blue
Was kinda curious about that myself but decided not to go over my quota on questions the other day. Cars from Paraguay, so kinda thought there might be different colored plates for different districts or some such.

For the 34 1102, the Thief Proof Number is I8508I

Although it's in the text I submitted, for some unknown reason it doesn't show up in the post!

It also didn't show up when I submitted this post so I deleted the triangles before and after.

Gerd, thanks for trying to find out the answers to the earlier questions.

The latest convertible you added is really something--what I call Red with a capitol R--not for the shy and retiring because if it won't command attention, nothing will.

Dave,

Here's a '36
Thief Proof: <226217>
ID Plate: 14th 914 - 352
Eng No: *392018*

This is from a factory built RHD car - 1936 1402 7 Passenger sedan. Note, the ID Plate has "14th" stamped in front of the other numbers, is this "usual"?

There was another car in the shed a 1929 V8 Cadillac.

Might have to reconfigure your Matrix to include this Dave?
