A bad head gasket could also allow oil to get into the radiator.
I to have a 1951 200 4dr. so I'll be watching your blog.

Had more time to work on the car the last few weeks. Being furloughed has its advantages .

Built a body cart and moved the body from the frame to the cart.

And now for some questions for those watching.

1) What are my options for repairing this rust (both sides of the car)?

2) What is the best way to lift out a straight 8? I have removed several V8's but never a straight.

I know Classic to Current makes a partial quarter for these cars. Don't know how well they fit up or not. Also not sure they have the "speed line" in them above the lip.

Sorry to say I don't seem to see them listed on their website now. I'm pretty sure they use to list a patch panel for the lower quarter...

ptv, how can a bad head gasket allow oil to get into the radiator, except for what little is in the cylinders and combustion chamber? I ask because don't recall any oil passages from the block to the head on these S-8 engines. The bad head gasket condition certainly applies to OHV engines. Just curious. Thanks.

For your quarter panel you may want to try rockerking.com , there isn't a way to search for your panel but they boast having the largest aftermarket supply of panels for a number of makes. I called them years ago for a DeSoto I use to own. They have a lot of GM, Chrysler and Ford. They also list Studebaker, so there is a chance. May be worth the call. Otherwise may be worth calling some yards out west that may cut you a panel out of a desert shell.
