Three quite special events ahead of us for Packard folk in the NJ/PA area.

For members (and guests?) of Packards East (the NJ PAC region) and PAC's Keystone (PA) Packards, an April 21st open house at Howard & Gail Schaevitz' home in NJ. Those with an interest in the older Packards should certainly be familiar with them and their collection including a 1902 Model F detachable tonneau, 1910 and 1911 Model 30 tourings, 1912 Model 30 toy tonneau, 1912 Model 18 landaulet, 1915 Model 338, and a 1926 343 town car by Dietrich. By all means if early Packards are your thing and you can wrangle an invitation, go! Pix of some of Howard's cars attached.

Again for members of Packards East and Keystone and presumeably their guests, a week later a visit to Dan and Fred Kanter's new establishment in Boonton where they have consolidated their operations. Also a visit to their nearby restoration shop, followed by lunch at a local restaurant.

Lastly, open to all, the 53rd annual Das Awkscht Fescht in Macungie PA. This year the marque car will be Packard and if you wish to have your Packard displayed in the special display area, preregistration thru Keystone Packards is required.http://www.awkscht.com/

Despite a winter that doesn't seem to want to let go, we were blessed with lovely weather for both the Schaevitz and Kanter outings the last two weeks. Some photos of the day; the Auburn and 1201 belonged to guests. And the build slip for the 1201 does indeed specify WHITE rubber running boards!

Dan & Fred are in the process of combining their Packard operations into the same building as the rest of their operations and we had a lovely tour of 126,000 square feet of vintage auto parts. Then a quick visit to their restoration shop where the 1952 LWB Dietrich continues to progress though slowly. It is perhaps the only survivor of the 3, the other two apparently started by Dietrich but finished by Henney. Some back story on the Dietrich here:

Apologies if posting a non-Packard offends, but Howard & Gail Schaevitz also own this lovely and rare 1916 Mercer touring. For those not familiar with the make, Mercer was built in Trenton, New Jersey and founded by the Roebling family of steel cable and Brooklyn Bridge fame. About 5000 Mercers built between 1909 and 1925; I believe the Roeblings were no longer associated with the make after about 1919 when the last Roebling brother died.

Really beautiful fins on that Mercer exhaust manifold!

7th Series Speedster also had a lovely finned exhaust manifold, and finned brake drums also!
