The oil filter number on my old filter is 61-8711 made by Montgomery ward . I have tried to cross it on line but could not do it. Also the auto parts could not cross it. Thanks for any help.

Not sure either but if it turns out to by the Fram P7 that my 1940 used, I have a new unused on still in the box. I'll be at my Oregon shop briefly next week so if you can give some dimensions, I'll check mine to compare. The OD, length and diameter of the inside hole is probably enough.

As Don said, knowing the dimensions helps and when you have them check out the Napa FIL1080 or Wix 51080. That fits a canister which was standard on the 21-23rd 356 engines and I believe the factory prewar 356 canisters used the same size.

There were aftermarket filter installs available at the time so if you have one of those and not the factory install, then dimensions may be different and is when you need your numbers.

Here is the 1080 dimensions.

Just to confirm, if your filter housing is stock, NAPA 1080 is a correct cartridge.
