When I was a kid, a neighbor had a Packard. I'd say around a 1953,54,55 ,I swore it had a straw covered dashboard. Am I imagining this ???
I've looked on the Internet and have found nothing on this. I remember the car was really nice inside so I'd say it was top of the line.
Did Packard make a car with straw on the top of the dash or anywhere on the dash ???
It might have not been much straw but darn I saw straw !

51-53 and maybe 54 Packards did have a patterned dash on senior models and it was available in several colors, one of which Packard called brown, grained. I think that one was a light brown patterned over sort of a yellowish-tan base color -- although it might have been the reverse but still giving the dash a kind of overall tan look. Not what I would call straw though.

The closest that I think there is to repro the Packard pattern but not quite an exact match is a pattern called goatskin which at one time was available as one of the plates you could get from GrainIt Technologies. Might still be available but not shown in their current listings.

Here is what their goatskin pattern looked like.

I'm guessing your memory may be little fuzzy. How about your neighbor had a 1953 Kaiser Dragon? The dashboard, upholstery and roof vinyl were certainly unique. Yes, it looked like straw or wicker.

Thank you for the "plug" re the Kaiser Dragon interior!

Designed by Carlton Spencer, Kaiser's interiors were spectacular. The straw-looking material in the photo was called "Bambu".

Thanks to those that responded, could have been that Kaiser ???
Like I said I remember "straw " or something that looked like it.

This neighbor always had new cars ,about every 2 years or so. Never a Chevy or Ford no GM or Fords ,except . . . yep he had a 1958 Edsel . . . I think he did the Edsel because it was different.
Most of his cars were Packards and Dodges, always top of the line and big.

Thanks everybody.

My car is a late 51 Model "300", It originally had some kind of "Textured" dash only on the Passenger side starting about a couple inches to the left of the glove compartment to the far right hand side of the car. According to the Info I found, the "textured" dash started in 1952.
