Modern Jack

For anyone looking for a modern scissor jack to use in place of the OEM bumper style jacks for road side tire changes, I found that a jack from a 2003-2011 Ford Crown Victoria or a Mercury Grand Marquis (P/N 6W73-17080-AA) works very well and is in the correct weight range for most post-war Packards. It has a flange on one side that hugs the frame rail.

You can find them NOS on eBay around $50. Which for I think is a good deal compared to the imported aftermarket ones of unknown quality.

Good find, Kev. Another one to consider is a small hydraulic floor jack. I bought a ton and half Delco sometime back to take along with my road tools. It is small and easily stored in a trunk. I think it is safer than an original equipment type bumper jack and easier to use than a sissors type. The best jack would depend upon year of Packard. JWL

I have an original bumper jack in the box(repo) that I keep in the trunk for show, I use the scissor jack if needed.
Scissor jack is also good to jack the trans to one side to remove the PB unit.
