I had planned on taking the old one apart to see if it could be repaired. But I ran out of time as I had back surgery scheduled. Therefore, I opted for the NOS and the wife took the car down to the mechanic who works on out newer vehicles. I explained the system to him over the phone and told what I needed to have done. PM'ing with Riki I wish I had examined and taken more pics of the controller. It used 2 Tyco VF4-15f4 relays and a timer module built by Hexagon Industries. I can't see the P/N of the module

I can't see why they took out the original relays.

Is there a pot to adjust time delay?..

I would of taken out the contacts for more room. But they left them in..

Looks like a 556?.. Ic... 2 555 in one ic.

Thanks for the peak a boo..

I agree with removing the original contacts.

One might guess that they figured that why keep the original relays or maybe 1 didn't work.

I don't recall seeing a pot for adjusting the delay. I Only wish I had taken more pics, but was in a hurry to get the TL before being operated on as the shop that did the swap didn't want to figure out why the TL wasn't working

It might be. That the. Original relays drew to much current. For the timing circuit.

Thinking about it..a pot or trimmer might not work that good in areas that might get moisture..just my thoughts..

Having a set time..i would think it would be more reliable. Why it was done like that..

Does the time delay start at 7 seconds? On the button?..

Marston.

Here is my 56

Not to happy about using bell wire. Especially on the lever. I'll change that to strained .. like Packard had.

What it is..no ic..(555) .timer. 2 timing circuits 1 for up.... 1 for down. Timing done by resistor capacitor..

Don't know why they used a signal diodes on mine..that are only good for about an amp.

Used them on my train layout in 80s..and would fry them..

After further looking the wire is strained.

But it's stiff..

These are 10 second delay. Which is only 3 secs. Difference.

Only way to see what the delay is ..need to cut it open.

They are not to much..to try it ..guess I'll cut it open..i am curious..

And shouldn't hurt to leave open..packards are..

Marty.

Cut it open.

They are using a 100uf 35v capacitor.
