Yes, factory Sardonyx carpet was pinkish. I was thinking the reference in the posting was to a bright pink. Anyway I have looked in my 1955 Packard color & upholstery album and yes, Trim 81 appears to be in the listing for Sardonyx carpet.

And agree that the carpet pictured here on the inside of the firewall is factory original. But the carpet on the floorboard is obviously a replacement that looks like 1970s cut pile.

One further note however...Earle C. Anthony PAC region had a member with an original Sardonyx Four Hundred with low miles. I took many photos of that car. I don't know the trim number that was on the serial plate, but the carpet in that car was black. I recall this intimately because I drove that car and worked on it with the owner.
