Hi,

I have to replace the rear leaf springs on my 1950 eight. It has rubber pads above and below the springs. I have not had these in vehicles I have owned before. Are these needed?

They are not all rubber, they are various compositions, altering the coefficient of friction between the various leaves for optimal ride characteristics, a Packard patent. You can't replicate them but there are various alternatives such as Teflon liners, and also the alternative of just eliminating them. Others who have actually gone thru this will have better information.

Thanks for the reply. I was meaning the rubber type blocks where the u bolts attach the rear axle to the springs and the plate they connect two.

Steele Rubber has the replacement for these spring pads.
Part #70-0245-32. Very expensive!

Good Afternoon...You might check with Eaton Detroit Spring. They made the springs originally for the 48-50 Packards and they still make them by request today. We purchased a set for Miss Prudence, a 1949 Deluxe. They seems to work quite well. Ernie in Arizona

I have the old squished ones. I did not know if new ones would help. It seems that movement of the springs against the axle would not be good.
