I think you have this figured out, but as Howard and JW told me:

Use a mirror to look under the oil filter canister to see if OUTLET or INLET is stamped on it around the hole. There are 2 types.

Seems strange that on Page 6 of my Duchess blog I was having similar problems that showed up on Page 6 of yours.

See Post#53 here:
http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5878&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=50

I had to replace my oil pressure sending unit with a new one. My old one looks better to me, but it doesn't work.

For some reason I keep wondering whatever was the final result. Did it start? Did you figure out the oil pressure issue?

have you done a compression check.low compression can contribute to your problem. However,I think the advice you got about timing is much more likely to solve the problem . Good luck!

I check compression and discovered the compression is not good. As low as 35 on 1 cylinder and high of 85 with others in between.
Regarding timing. Wen setting no 1 I think I am correct. My timing marks are about 2 inches away though, I then rotate until my 6 degree mark lines up with pointer. Is that the correct way to do.
I will try again, but I am ready to pull the engine .

Hi Mike; I PMed my phone number as I would like to help as I have been working on 22 and 23 series Packards for about fifty years. I have some suggestion that will help you if you plan to show your woodie at Packard events. Also many extra trim parts that need a good home. If the engine is out to rebuild I would suggest the correct gray engine color, 47 was the last of the green ones. the new Ford gray is expectable. Please let me know if you would like some help.
