flackmaster ... don't be worry and don't be sad .. but there is no wax for this kind of shine on the head. Only hours by hours of work ... with sanding .. maybe sandblasting ... special spatula ... sanding and spatula again .... and sanding back to the cast surface and special primer to fill all this rust holes and scares and waves and maybe a couple steps more till a real good surface. Then ...after paint you got this nice shine surface without wax .. 😉 I love this kind of restauration till the point the constructors ... the engineer?s and the blue print means it ... before the producers made it. Here my 1924 engine block ready to paint after more than hours and hours of machine and hand sanding steps on cast cylinder and aluminum crankcase. Last step the Aluminum crankcase are sanded by 800 grid by hand and finished by a special machine aluminum brush to medium gloss before a special aluminum clearcoat .. also medium gloss. And that's what some people called a "over restauration" or "NOT ORIGINAL" !!!

Use a fill primer and block sanding. For the bolt areas place dummy bolts with washers on the contact areas to prevent tearing of the finish as evident on the water jacket.

As well, a light color primer will give a lighter tint to the green if that is preferred.

Finally, the water jacket bolts should be a heavy head which are hard to find but would make for a nice reproduction parts project. I would do it myself, but when work starts up again I will be buried in work.

I couldn't help it. I ground all the casting marks off, and the head smooth with my angle grinder and 3" discs, light primer, sanded and painted. I will say since color sanding and polishing I have only used detail spray, no wax. The photo of the engine assembled is after 3000 miles of use. I think it is holding up very well. I replaced the junk aluminum head with the replacement cast iron head, I had to make it match the rest of the engine. Photo of the stamped and casting number too.

Great idea with the corks/washers and also the SP surfaces. Ive been doing that with washers/bolts nuts. Take them off for the final shoot. Ive found manyahead that has lost its torque because of paint buildup. Also those SP do not like paint.
