Today Yvonne Joyce Craig, better known as Batgirl, enters the stage of PackardInfo.
I don't believe, that she ever owned a Packard and I'm not even sure if the photo shows her sitting on a Packard (the caption mentions a Packard Touring and an octagon is emblazoned on the spare wheel cover). For more information one could ask Alfred, because

"...only Alfred, the butler for Bruce Wayne/Batman, was aware of Batgirl's identity..." [wikipedia].

Hi Owen

Yes, Found in Fred Roe's Duesenberg, The Pursuit of Perfection, page 247-248. Car 2136 J116 short-wheelbase (142"wb) Derham phaeton. Apparently, this was an early body style, shown at the early 1929 West Coast Salons. The identifiers are those rearward-slanted door cut-lines. The better-known, 153" wb Derham Tourster phaetons came along shortly thereafter.

Okay, okay, you're right. A Batmobil should be much more dynamically designed. So how about this one?

Lina Basquette (April 19, 1907 - September 30, 1994), was an American actress. The stories about her tumultuous personal life will outlive the memories of her cinematographic heritage.

BTW Please don't take it deadly serious when reading that this kind of head-lamp housings bears a certain resemblance to tuna cans.

Hi Guscha

Lina had excellent taste in Packards! Her rig is a 1925-26 Series 236 Sport Phaeton for four passengers. Not only is it the large 357.8 ci straight eight on the shorter 136" wb but also the radiator, hood and body are lower, for a more sporting profile. An easy way to identify them is the rear door hinging, opposite from the standard Touring. The drum headlights really look great on cars of these years; very large and imposing. The windshield may be from a newer year Packard or an aftermarket unit, much lower height and chromed.

Interesting and unusual tread pattern on the tires, certainly not the OEM tires - anyone hazard a guess at the tire brand? I don't quite get the connection to "India Tires" on the photo caption, can't say I ever heard of "India" tires, I thought they were perhaps Fisk or Lee.

Steve (58L8134), the wealth of your specific knowledge becomes more and more apparent. Thanks for sharing.

Dave (O_D), I hope that the result of my short scan revealed the background (attached). Several contemporary ads are available (sample).

Hi Guscha

".....the wealth of your specific knowledge becomes more and more apparent."

Thanks for the kind compliment, though its more a case of remembering the years and models that specifically interest me.......and good reference materials. Others are far more familiar with the pre-war years than I, know the specific details that identify each.

India Tires of Akron, Ohio had to be one of the small in "Rubber" town. Nearly every other tire maker was in that city or vicinity. It might also have been a company that contracted with the larger tiremakers to brand a line for their outlets, still goes on today.
