bought this 49 about a month ago. i started a thread in general section but thought i'd keep you posted and ask my questions here. it's a 288 with manual transmission. this is my first real old car. i don't really know anything about packards. it was cheap, fairly solid and looks cool so i bought it.
it runs and drives but needs a bunch of little things.

my new (old) hub caps came today! i am going to have my tires flipped so the white lines are facing out. also going to paint the rims white. i am on the look out for fender skirts! anyone have a set?

took out my leaky gas tank today. check out my sending unit! i think its a mouth wash cap! it did not work by the way.
are new sending units available?
what is this sticking out the side of the tank? a drain?

The floats are available at the local Ford dealership, and clean up the sender and check it with an ohm meter, it's probably ok.

Help! Can't get the rear brake drum off. The shoes are loose it spins freely. I heated it abit and banged on it but it is still on there. Any tricks to get this sucker off.
