Wanted,

Ashtray assembly and pull handle - with or without plastic fascia. Fits 1939 Super 8 and 1940 Custom Super 8 180 models.

Thanks,
Jim

That ash receiver has become your white unicorn...a mythical creature!

Is the ash receiver body just a simple bent sheet metal structure? If so, I wonder if you could have one bent up and then use the reproduction plastic. Basically roll your own. I am probably being too simplistic, but I know my ash receivers are very simple metal structures.

Kev,

Essentially, that is correct. I could bend one up and use the 120 receptacle. I could probably even do the millwork and create the handle. Really though, if I actually did this, or heaven forbid find one, I don’t know what Flack and I would have to talk about.

I guess getting the correct cigar lighter and adding to the car yesterday has inspired me!

I fear running out of little ways to improve the car, and getting sucked in to the type of project (V-8) we talked about at the meet.

I'm just saying an air-conditioned 56 would be very enjoyable come Summer in Phoenix.

I guess I haven't been paying attention. I didn't realize this was a long search for you. I will check the parts department in the Packard museum next time I'm over there... perhaps near the end of the month... of February.

Hi West,

I haven’t said much on the forums about the ashtray yet, I figured there were other things to find. I had very good luck finding other missing pieces by posting on the forums a while back.

I appreciate your help,
Jim

So April first came and went and I thought Hmm, no one got to me. Really the only odd thing that happened was a morning call from Flackmaster asking for my land line. Not that unusual, often more convenient to use the landline because my cell phone does not work on the lower levels of the house (Bermuda Triangle house I guess).

Two minutes go by after talking and the house phone rings, it’s David??? Who says oh just checking to make sure I got the right number.

I went to work and figured… Hmm… I bet I will come home and there will be Dave and a group of Packard owners from Australia on tour. Seriously, with David, hard telling 

So nothing, not a peep. Well, today I get home and my wife presents me with a package, an open package. Hmm… she never opens packages. Oh well, what is it? Holy Cow! New old stock electric wiper transmissions for my car. Unbelievable, NOS 70 year wiper transmissions. What are the chances? One-step closer to putting the electric wipers in next winter. Happy days!

What a pleasant surprise after a tough week of work and school. I was still in a semi state of shock from the wiper transmission deal and a long week, decided to take a car to Friday evening cruise in. Went up stairs to change cloths and switch keys. Put my daily driver keys in the pile and fetched the Friday night car keys. Hmm… something strange… in the pile of keys, pocket knives and sundry trinkets is an unidentified item. What the heck? A familiar yet foreign item. Where did this come from? Gosh, looks like a 39 Super 8 ashtray handle. I call out to Debbie, Where did this come from? She feebly attempts to explain that it’s always been there.

That didn’t go far, and the April fool was up. Dave talked to Debbie the day before and plotted the little escapade. Trouble was, the mailman (Mail person these days) couldn’t be bothered to walk to the door and left a “to big to fit in the mail slot” note. It was redelivered today and the speechless April second fool was me! While it didn’t take me too awfully long to figure it out, you can imagine the period of time staring at the most illusive auto part I think I have ever looked for (3 years!) sitting on my dresser.

Anyway, I am almost recovered from the state of shock, and couldn’t believe I will have to look for other items now. It seems like the end of an era, like finding Bigfoot sitting on your dresser drawers.

Thanks Dave!

Jim

Having fun with fellow Packard owners? I'm normally not fond of April fool jokes, but this is a great one. Helping fellow owners has to be a good feeling all the way around. Congratulations to both Dave and Jim. This is a grand group - is it not??
Let's have a drink on that!
