yeah so no ATF in the Ultramaitc, just plain old gear oil did the trick.

been rollin smooth around Holywoood.

i went to Pomona to find some '51 Cali plates... and the cheapest I found them was $450 .

seemed a bit steep to me.

Then a few gearheads suggested getin new plates AND PAINTING THEM the color scheme of the '51 plate , which is gold yellow with black alphanumerics..

so i think i'll be going vanity plate, and painting them. whats the big deal. i'll ask my buddy on the LAPD if a plate mutilation ticket is worth worrying about.

maybe orig plates might end up bein the cheaper option

$450???!?!?!?!!!

And they say you can't find good help these days! Ha... you seem to find very talented help in those Hollywood Hills. You may need to trade that for a Packard limo if any more lovely helpers join your Packard Pit Posse.

But seriously, I am glad to see your making good progress!

Yo homie. Just wonderin what type of tranny fluid you were using before the gear oil boondogle? These ultramatics were designed to use type F not merc 3 or whatever.

Sign day pity on the runnin kind...

Packard transmissions are not supposed to shift. They start off in high and stay there.

At around 20 or 25 MPH the lock up torque converter locks up. This may feel like a shift.

Low gear is for emergencies. You can start in low by manually shifting, or kick down by flooring the gas pedal.

By the way I don't know how long it will last with the wrong fluid in it.

Others have reported the tranny works better if you use B&M fluid. This fluid cleans and softens the clutches and in some cases, avoided the need for a rebuild.

3 Reasons (that lowering your Packard will be a pain in your ass)
a short story by koolkojak

Put 3" lowering blocks in the rear suspension of your Packard!
or just buy a Packard with blocks installled - easy!

Now, try to :
1. remove your rear wheels . nope sorry
2. install stock shocks. blam!!!! shock blowout!exciting and expensive
3. replace your brake cylandrs.
shoukd be easy once you figure out how to get the wheels off.
de flate the tire. didnt work? great ! try removing your blocks from your suspension

good f$?||?{?|?{?]?cking luck!!!!

the end

blew out a shock!!!!

bam

could be cuz the car is lowered in the back 3 inches.
i giuess

ALSO:

i got Hi gear back last nite..... so then today i flushed the tranny (hahahaha)
and got no Hi gear!!!

so I'm thinking that i might have a gunked up transmission FILTER!!!

when the oil gets warm, it un-gunks the tranny filter.

what do u guys think? do i need to replace the filter? im gunna try to clean it out first.

Rachel, get under the car!!
