Jim and I were contemplating the idea of putting together a PackardInfo "Un-Meet" in 2011. A possible location for this would be Laughlin, Nevada. This is a gambling and river sports destination near where Nevada, Arizona, and California come together and is located on the Colorado river and reasonable close to Lake Havasu. The area has several reasonable prices casino resorts/hotels (typically more affordable than Vegas), and has been the site of many car events.

Best time of the year would be November. The weather then is very nice, and it would a welcome warm up for the East Coast folks.

This is in the extreme early concept stages, so we are just floating the idea to see if there is interest. We were thinking that any profits generated from the event would be donated to the Proving Grounds.

Any takers??? If there is, then we will start asking for volunteers that can help with the planning and execution as I am just a schulb with a computer, and that is not my forte. This would be a club agnostic event and we would welcome help from all.

I am sure Jim can articulate all of this better, so look for a follow-up from him.

Hello all,

The idea behind a possible November 2011 Laughlin meet is a reasonable destination that Packard Info members could come together with or without cars. The membership here is substantial enough that a meet of this sort should put us in a position to get a block of discounted rooms and perhaps a banquet room for a luncheon or dinner. As Kevin mentioned, the modest proceeds from a banquet could be donated to the proving grounds effort.

While the hope would be for as many people and cars as possible, this would really be more for our enjoyment. I wouldn't think there would be any judging just a fun display. There is plenty to do there for the whole family.

I think the Riverside Hotel would be the better venue because of Don Laughlin's on site old car collection. Don himself is a car buff; therefore, the hotel is old car friendly. I was there in April for a meet and can say there is plenty of parking, room for truck/trailers if anyone prefers to haul their car, and lots of parking for cars on display. The hotel is a major complex with a bowling alley and arcade on preemies. There is also a reasonable buffet.

So how about everyone, who is interested in a Packard Info destination get together in a year and a half? We will need to hear from any of you that would consider attending to get an idea if this is a viable project. Let's hear your thoughts on this.

Jim

Timing appears good for weather and non-interference with other major events., though over a long weekend might encourage better driver participation. As for me, what is the nearest major airport?

One more thought would be to arrange a gathering during a sanctioned Packard event, which may promote further participation by unaware Packard people. For example, simply a cash bar happy hour "sponsored" by Packardinfo...

That would be Las Vegas. You could rent a car there and drive to Laughlin or maybe someone going could pick you up.

This possible event is interesting to me also since I live in Pahrump (70 mi NW of LV). Also my friend Paul with his 1956 Exec lives in North Las Vegas, so he might be game.

I am also sure we could arrange a driving tour out to Oatman, AZ. It would be a great 1/2 day trip (30-40miles round trip). Route 66 runs down the middle of this little Ghost/Mining town set up in the local mountains. Wide Wild burros wander the streets looking for tourists to feed them carrots, and the 100 year old motel (now a museum), had it share of celebrities and notorious folks. It a pretty easy drive from Laughlin.

Don't know if that's advisable Kev, there could be a traffic jam, Packards are pretty big themselves!

Seriously, I'd love to get there but a large ocean and an empty wallet(courtesy of youngest son getting married next year) conspire to prevent it.

Ok folks, after some chat with Kev and Gerd the other night we have learned that flights into Las Vegas McCarran Airport will get you within shuttle range. There are a number of shuttle services. Kev did a quick search and found a $35 dollar van service. There is also an airline that hubs out of Minnesota (Kev correct me if I'm wrong) with flights into Laughlin / Bullhead airport. Kev, please feel free to elaborate here.

There are also many direct flights listed on the hotel website including (Dave...) a direct flight on Sun Country from Dallas, Texas.

I have made contact with hotel representatives and am exploring tentative dates in November, 2011.

Again, those who think it might be fun to put a face to the P-Info name, speak up because we have to get an idea of head count.

Craig, I am glad to hear you and perhaps Paul might make the trip. Heck, with you, Paul, Dave, me, Debbie, Kev, and the folks who have PM'd they would like to go... why heck, there is a good gathering right there!

Remember folks, this is a limited time offer, act now and we will include wide burrow rides! But wait, that's not all... if you act now we will include a tour of the Riverside Hotel Casino antique auto collection! How much would you pay, don't answer yet... we have free Packard parking with bragging rights included! Bragging rights include how good of time was made getting there, stated gas mileage, how many pitiful little not Packard cars were passed, and how many people were schooled at the truck stops on who made Packard!

That's all for now,
Jim
