Looking good! What do you estimate that the weight-savings will be?

Not sure what the weight difference is between the aluminum body and the cast body. Im using the cast iron bellhousing. So somewhere between the 54 GS weight and the 56 Twin weight.

Another modification I really like for the sake of temperature control is to ventilate the bell housing. I don't have a more recent picture, but what I have settled on is (6) 1 1/4 holes spaced around the periphery of the bell. I cut them in with a good Starrett hole saw. The convertor is the chief source of heat, so I like to let it out.

I first did this on the Ultra in my Packup and am pleased to report that after 40K it still shifts exactly the same as the day I built it and the shift quality does not change after a long bout with traffic.

Kevin

I had question about seal..so called Ross..

The seal should be flush ..in to far and you block the return hole.

I did it with a 1/2 wide seal..nowhere for oil to go..but right out shaft..

After my experience..I looked at spare bell housing.. That. Had about 3/16ths gap. Between bushing and seal..

Oh, Riki is right, your front seal is in a bit far. That is OK as long as the drain back hole is not obscured. Might want to stick a bit of mirror in there and have a look.

Hmmm... You're talking about the the bellhousing oil.seal, not the bushing correct? Not sure I even noticed a drain back hole in that area.

I'll have to see if I can back it out without destroying it.
