2011 NATIONAL MEMBERSHIP MEET

When: January 28 - 30, 2011
Where: Doubletree Inn, Orange, CA

Theme: Caribbean Cruise (Special tribute to all Packard Caribbeans)

Friday Guest Speaker: Rich Luckin (producer of the Packard DVD starring Edward Herrman)

Saturday Guest Speaker: Jeff Teague (son of late Richard Teague - Chief Packard Designer)



As Warren is in the East, this meet in the West also unofficially doubles as a PackardInfo.com meet and greet. So come out and meet myself and other folks from the website. I would love to see some of you East coast and Mid-west folks if you can make it.

There is also an all Packard Swapmeet on Sunday morning the 30th. The Swapmeet, as well as the Car Show on the 29th, are free and open to the public.

Trying to get a head count on the number of PackardInfo folks that are planning on coming out to the PI Meet, or may be thinking about it. So speak up and be counted.....I wont hold you to it.

I'm in!

Just checked on the rooms, they are $110-$130 per night at the host hotel (typical weekend rate). Nice hotel that is close to lots of restaurants and shopping. Also taxi/shuttle distance to Orange County (John Wayne) Airport and Disneyland.

Except for required runs to the BBQ and Brew-Pub restaurants, I never need to leave the premises during the Meet.

I have sent a note to the PI folks asking for the official event flyer. They may also have negotiated a better room rate as well.

Got the reply back from PI. Offical Meet flyer and signup packet is still in the works. But here is the tentative agenda:

The deal with the hotel is set, $110/night, so the hotel can take reservations NOW.

The theme is "Caribbean Cruise"

Tribute to all Packard Caribbeans and recognition to all owners. We expect more Caribbeans in one place since the 1999 Centennial in Warren, Ohio

G'day Big Kev,

Both John King and I (John Payne) from Melbourne, Australia, are seriously considering coming over for this event. Me mainly to visit USA for the first time and to meet the previous owner of my '56 Patrician, Dick Benjamin, from Temecula, CA. Dick B was a personal friend of Dick Teague and actually drove this Patrician in his funeral procession. The other John is in his element fossicking around swap meets so that's his main interest. I'll look out for you to say g'day if we get there. Cheers, John

I look forward to seeing you and the other John in January. I'm pretty easy to spot at a distance. I'm usually the biggest guy in the room!

Temecula is just down the road from me in Riverside. I believe Dick Teague's car is currently at Custom Auto Service in Santa Ana getting restored. Mat was fortunate to see it when Gary Osko took him over there was week.

I am sure Mat can tell you more about it if you are interested.

So including myself.. I think the count of website Members attending is at 4.

For those East Coasters the weather is usually very nice and mild at that time of year and perfect break from the Mid-Western and East Coast winters. I just put the PI Meet on my X-Mas list every year, and my wife covers my room expense as a Christmas gift. It's a win-win.

Hopefully this year if things keep progressing without a major problem, my "project" '54 will be in attendance dressed in primer, and sporting a "utilitarian" interior.
