Your painting looks great. What system are you using and what brand?

Thanks for following along! I'm not doing nearly as complete a job as you are, vis-a-vis the painting. I am only doing the chassis components. For the chassis, I am using an initial two coats of POR-15, followed by 3 coats of Eastwood Chassis Black. I make sure to prep the surface for the POR-15 per the manufacturer's instructions. I also apply the first coat of Chassis Black onto the POR-15 when it is still tacky. I found that if the POR-15 dries to much, the Chassis Black won't stick. I let the part cure for 48 hours before doing anything else to it.

If I do it right, I can hammer on the paint and not mar it. I don't recommend the hammer step.

Just a quick update, and a quick question. I got the brake drums cleaned up (they had already been machined) and painted. As per Dave's comments, I only applied a single thin coat of primer and a single thin coat of chassis black.

Interestingly, the old paint that remained was quite thick; a fairly thick layer of red primer and a thick layer of black lacquer. I'm pretty sure it was original paint. Admittedly, there weren't a lot of areas left painted.

The plug for the brake light wires that goes to the socket on the transmission was shot (see photos below). Anyone know a good source for such a piece? I looked through Restoration supplies catalog and could not find anything. I couldn't think of another source.

It's a long shot, but you might try the folks who make wiring harnesses, like Rhode Island, etc.

This last week I got the brakes finally done and the drums reinstalled. Yesterday my brother and I did some bushing installation for the front spring shackles. Unfortunately, that was all the time I had. I am off to Colorado for two weeks of work, so there will be no updates after that.

Dear All,

It has been a very long time since I have updated this blog, but I am now back. My absence has been very frustrating, as it has also meant an absence from my garage! I am hopeful that next week I will be able to restart work on the sedan.

In other news, I have had to move servers for the Packard Paddock website. I have also decided to change the program I have been using to create the website, which meant largely recreating the entire site. I am still in the process of that migration, but I would really like it if folks could give me some feedback on the new look and feel of the site.
