Door Handle remove and replace

I have a '35 1200 sedan, and the door handle has developed a problem There is a ring behind the door handle that can be tightened/loosened to make the door handle function. Its pot metal and in tightening it a portion of it cracked. I have a replacement, so my question is how tough is it to replace.
I'm thinking the door handle will just come out if I fully loosen the ring but I'm not sure. The door cards are stapled to the doors wooden structure so I'm hoping I don't have to deal with that. Any thoughts on how this comes apart??

If I recall correctly the handle will come off if you loosen the ring, i suspect there is a type of clip/snap ring type clip that holds the ring to the handle, I had mine off and can't recall anything more then it comes off by loosening the ring that has broken on your handle.
