I am looking for a 1928 voltage regulator on my 6 cyl 533 generator.

Max doesn't have one. Kanter is still checking.

Any direction is appreciated.

IIRC your car didn't have a voltage regulator, they came along some years later. Your unit was a simple cutout and there are quite a few alternatives. If you don't get a firm lead here, talk to one of the generator specialists, Jason at AER, or ACE Generator, for example.

I picked up a NOS relay and have installed it on the generator. BEFORE I hooked the final relay end to the battery I thought I would measure the voltage at the generator end of the cutout relay. It measures just under 24 volts. This seems a bit too high as I was expecting around 7 to 8 VOLTS.
Can the generator be off by that much?

Am I getting 24 volts because I have not hooked up the battery end to the cutout relay?

Sounds awful high to me. I take it has an adjustable third brush? By moving the brush the voltage can be changed at the output.

Complete the connection to the battery and recheck the voltage.


Did you ever disconnect the battery switch while the engine was running at fast idle or higher? The voltage would have jumped to 20+ volts and instantly toasted any light bulbs which happened to be on at the time.
