So I noticed some green drips under the car and my mechanic discovered there is a leak where the shaft that turns the fan goes into the engine. Any ideas? Picture below.

Thanks in advance!

Your water pump packing either needs adjustment, or perhaps refreshing or replacement. Proper adjustment allows an occasional drip. Your pump looks pretty neglected, if the shaft is scored or damaged, a proper fix will probably require a replacement shaft, perhaps you should pull it for a closer inspection.

You can buy suitable packing cord at any good plumbing supply house.
