I bought this car on July 23rd, 2010 in Friendship, WI. The car was in beautiful condition. It wore its second paint job in its original color of Turquoise Blue. It is intended to be a 3 year restoration. Currently all chrome has been removed from the body in preparation for paint next warm season.

Congratulations! Another 48-50 saved!

I like the original color.

I own a 50 standard eight. These cars were really of high quality when new and this helps with the preservatioan as well. My car was also good with very little rust. A Good body makes the restoration process easier.

Are you going to remove the front body panels for painting? How is your engine? I find that the chroming is one of the most expensive parts of the restoration. Are you painting it yourself?

Enjoy the process.

Barrie

Thanks for being interested, Barrie! Your car is very similar to mine, I see. I won't be removing any large pieces of the body, just chrome. The whole car will be painted at one time. The engine is 100% original (except for the battery, of course) and still has what's left of the original paint on the block. It runs like a dream and starts up just as easy, too. I will be getting a quote either before or after winter for paint. I think the last person who tried to re-paint it really did an awful job. It looks like spray paint right on top of the original paint! Thanks again for your interest! I'll keep you and everyone else posted on the restoration. Nothing has really happened in the past couple of days, though.

Every sigle piece of chrome is now successfully off of the car. Hopefully it will be painted by the time the Galena meet rolls around. There is a picture in the archives.

Best of luck with your project, J.R. Could you please give me the thief-proof number (large embossed # above the heater) and if possible, the Briggs body # (small tag inboard of the heater box? The thief-proof sppears in your photo to begin as <89XXXX>

Thanks.

Yeah no problem. The thief-proof # is <89I897>. TheI in the middle might be a 1. I thought it looked more like an I, though. The Briggs # is 2362 5126.

Thanks. Somewhere on this site are a # of threads on thief-proof numbers and one gives an example of Packard's exclusive type font. In it the numeral 1 resembles an I.

I'll also pass your #s along to Bob Neal for possible use in his forthcoming book on the 48-50 Packards.
