mystery engine number 2

Hopefully this will be a short mystery. The engine in my '37 was replaced in the 40s I suspect so it was not an original. Upon evaluation it and the head had cracks. So I bought an NOS 282 block for my 1937 Sport Coupe. It has been to the machine shop and is ready for assembly. This is where "IT" hits the fan.
I went to install the tappets and found my old ones were 5/8" in diameter. The NOS block had 1". I figure this in not going to be fixed with a bushing or 3/8" caulk. I check around and find out later model blocks have larger diameter tappets. So I buy tappets. Further research reveals that the water pump is also different. I bought one. It doesn't fit. The original one fits though.
I built a rotisserie engine stand that carried both ends of the original engine. Once the mounts were positioned I welded the mounting arms in position. Now I tried to install the mount on the front of the NOS block and the holes don't line up. The Flackmaster has been involved but he is stuck. So I'm throwing it out to the group.
What is this block?

other than the waterpump, what other holes don't line up?
Curious to see comparison to original block?
Curious to know if the new block was drilled for oil filter?

I suppose it is what it says it is, a replacement '37 block. I recall reading in some service bulletins of "availability' of service replacement blocks for certain applications...maybe that is where the explanation lies...

Service Counselor Vol. 21 No. 12 from August 1947 shows availability of replacement cylinder and piston assemblies for a range of prewar models, including the 120's which could explain the 1946 casting date in the photos.

Original early blocks had the larger diameter tappets and a different water pump.

David I hope to get the old engine back today. I'll take a picture of it when I get it back.

"Holes for a filter? I'm not finding any."

My understanding is that the oil filter canister is mounted on the front of the cylinder head. Look at the front of the head for mounting holes.
