Gentlemen,

I am contemplating on doing a complete paint job on my 1950 Packard convertible. So this morning I spent some time looking at the paint chips and the colours posted in the literature here and I only find one yellow listed and it's way to yellow. When I look at my car which I know has been touched up over the years it looks like Packard Ivory. But could it be corona cream? Depending on the company there are different colors.
Interested in your thoughts
Thanks

J

Is the original paint code no longer visible on the patent (vehicle number) plate? My guess and just that as colors can be distorted by electronic imaging, is Maumee Maize, paint code Z.

I agree that Maze is more yellow than your car. However, I never have seen a well preserved original in one of those colors. Other colors yes. The only good source of color reference is if you can get your hands on an original can with the Packard label. I knew an old timer who had un-opened cans of original Packard paints.

If you could find one spray cards using different bases could be made up.

Can you see the original color under any of the unexposed painted parts on the car? Could it be faded?

You can try this website:

https://www.autocolorlibrary.com/

They have Packard colors and I have ordered from TCP Global. They matched my Chariot Red very well.

The original paint might be unfaded under the patent plate and a couple of other easy places to see original paint might be under the antenna mounting pad or grommet or under a tail light. All are relatively easy to remove and if you are getting the car painted you might want to replace the rubber grommets or mounting pads under the antenna or tail lights anyway.

Thanks guys! I think I'll have to do some on the car research. Because there has to be spots that haven't seen the light of day.
