I found this picture of the "Flintstone Flyer" in my files, obviously a *Bathtub* Packard in drag racing trim. I don't remember anything about it other than somebody sometime sent me an email with this JPG attached. It's pretty cool, IMO.

Does anyone know anything about this car?

Craig

Wow!

Thanks for the link Ozstatman!

So, it is Dave Koffel, from the 1960s. Currently, Chevy powered and Ford 9" rear. Gotta luv it!

I wonder if it were ever Packard V-8 Powered?

Craig

Yes Craig. Doesn't Oz have an amazing 'mis-spent' youth?
Even Fred and Barney would be proud.

I'm not the only one who knows of this car, it's been in several magazines and on here before.

I still think it'd be cooler if it was a two door.

Remember a close friend who was really a big booster of the car when we went to races in Ohio in early sixties all Bob would talk about was the Flintstone flyer. Had not remembered the connection until I saw this. Sad part is that Bob my friend died at a early age so its a little sad connection for me. Still nice to remember the fun we had going to the drags. Unlike Mal I consider my younger days some of the best in my life. Even if limited funds were a factor we had a lot of fun.

G'day all, In the late 1970's a friend in the US sent me a heap of stuff on Packards involved in drag racing, including the Flintstone Flyer . The flintstone Flyer won the NHRA Nationals in both 1962 and 1963 running in F/Gas.
I have a copy of the For Sale ad from Dave Koffel ( with or without engine).
Another person to look up is Everett Hatch, who ran a 55 Packard and was apparently very successful against the lighter D/Gas cars (57 Chevys). He was protested almost every time he ran but always came up clean. His packard was just not supposed to beat the Chevs, on paper anyway.
Also look for Roger Gaskill who ran a 39 La Salle with V8 Packard power, it used to run in the 13's, 105 mph order.
Also Sirk brothers, Packard powered, running 15.51 (87.15et) at the National Trail raceway, Columbus Ohio, July 11 1965.
A packard powered AA (rail ) ran 10.3 (140.4 mph) on June 19 1965 at the Woodburn drag strip in Woodburn, Oregon.
He also sent a lot of detail about Packards versus Hudsons etc on speedway. Packard put up some impressive victories in the speedway arena. There was a very interesting article "IS HUDSON SLIPPING?" in "SPEED AGE" NOVEMBER 1953.
best regards Peter Toet
