VEHICLE HISTORY/
PROJECT STATUS:
I'm the 3rd owner. The previous owner purchased it in 1955. This is one of the unsold '49 23rd series Packards that was re-numbered as a '50 by the factory. So far I've dropped the oil pan and cleaned it out. Added 4 1/2 quarts of ATF to the Ultramatic. Replaced the rear shocks, replaced a missing oil filter, corrected the reversed battery polarity, got all the electrical items working except the gas gauge (suspected bad sending unit) and clock (probably needs cleaning and lubrication). Freed up the stuck heater valve and I now have a working heater. Cleaned and lubed the front suspension system. Got a new exhaust system from Kepich and had it installed. Replaced all the petrified rubber parts in the front suspension.  Sent the front shocks off to Apple Hydraulics to be re-built and re-installed them.  Replaced 16 valves and springs, 1 collapsed hydraulic lifter, and 7 pitted lifter seats (cam followers).   Put in a new set of rings.  Five new Diamond Back radial WWWs purchased which made an enormous difference in driveability.  Replaced the carpet. Had the Trico wiper motor re-built by Ficken Wiper Service.
