Series and Model Information | ||
A mid-year model, Executive replaces Clipper Custom in the spring of 1956, but becomes the new entry-level Packard. Though given a unique chassis and body number, the Executive is based on the Clipper Custom chassis and body shell, but with Packard front end sheet metal, grille, lamps, and bumper. Side trim is a combination of Clipper and Packard elements, with front fender upper spear being unique to Executive model due to the extended length of the Packard headlamp brows. No ribbed side trim is used, but the area between straight side moldings lends itself to contrasting color with two-tone paint option. Fender skirts and rocker panel moldings are standard. Interior upholstery is same as Clipper Custom. So are instrument panel, gauges, and control knobs, but with Packard screen, ornamentation, steering wheel, and shift and turn signal levers. All exterior script plates are chrome-plated - rather than in gold as used on other Packard models. Torsion-Level suspension is still an option, but with 100% installation in actual production; it officially becomes standard equipment in May of 1956. |
