Series and Model Information | ||
Clipper emerges as a distinctive second line for Packard in 1955. Super represents a step-up from the Deluxe, mainly in terms of trim. The 55th Junior Series models are a major facelift of the 1951-54 shell, but trunk lid, rear bumper, and taillights are carried-over from previous Series. New back-up lights are still optional, but now integrated with the taillights. Helmswheel ornaments adorn throughout. Early front door side trim utilized a short straight spear at leading edge, limiting two-tone paint to the tops of doors, rear fenders, trunk, and roof areas; production later changed to a curved door molding, creating a natural cove for additional two-tone area - like Panama. Rear fender skirts and full wheel covers are optional, but rocker panel moldings are standard. All-new V8 engine is standard, with upgrade to Twin Ultramatic or overdrive transmission available at extra-cost. All-new Torsion-Level suspension is not offered on this model - even as an option - until July of 1955. Mid-year change in cylinder head casting also necessitates change in carburetor, distributor, and spark plugs. |
