Here's Bob's push button (actuator) control base plate, as found. The far right (left when looking on the unit)contact bridge mount hole is stripped, and there is evidence that water was getting into the actuator and someone drilled a hole to let it out, rather than seal the unt. Note corrosion at bottom.
This car came into Australia as LHD in about 1985, with about 35,000 miles original. Due to State laws it was not able to be road registered. In about 1995 the car was converted to RHD and was road registered.
This car is one of about 50 Australian Bodied Packards made by T J Richards of South Australia. The original engine was beyond repair so I fitted a post-war 327 and R6 overdrive. The R6 overdrive uses the 1938 gearbox top and performs as well as a 53 sedan.
