Longacre Square, re-named Times Square after the NY Times erected its large building there, was the center for carriage rentals and sales and horse stables,etc. , so it was natural that when automobiles were introduced their sales activities were centered there. However, by 1907 automobile companies began their move northward to upper Broadway in the sixties, with Packard locating at the corner of Broadway and 61st Street, 1861 Broadway.
